PSV and Ajax draw blank
Eredivisie title rivals PSV Eindhoven and Ajax cancelled each other out at the Philips Stadionas the game ended goalless.
The home side were first to threaten in the eighth minute through Ola Toivonen - and the Swede went close again 14 minutes later when he shot just over from a free-kick awarded for Jan Vertonghen's foul on Balazs Dzsudzsak.
In the 26th minute the lively Toivonen beat defender Toby Alderweireld but saw his right-foot shot go just wide. And the hosts went close on the half hour - again through Toivonen, who was sent clear by Erik Pieters but saw his chip land on the roof of the net.
Georgino Wijnaldum scored four as Feyenoord gave their fans something to shout about with a 5-1 demolition of FC Groningen.
Wijnaldum scored in the 23rd and 31st minutes, but not much has come easy for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie this season and they let Groningen back in as Nicklas Pedersen netted five minutes before the break.
However, Wijnaldum settled home nerves with the two second-half penalties, before Ron Vlaar rounded off the scoring four minutes from time.
Substitute Erik Falkenburg struck a dramatic stoppage-time winner as AZ Alkmaar dented FC Twente's hopes of defending their Eredivisie title in a match which saw both sides reduced to 10 men.
Luuk de Jong looked to have earned the champions a point two minutes from time when he cancelled out Theo Janssen's 27th-minute own goal, but Falkenburg had the last word to seal a 2-1 win.
Twente were a man down from the 44th minute, when Douglas was sent off for violent conduct, with the dismissal of Nick Viergever for a professional foul midway through the second half evening up the numbers.
The only consolation for Twente may have been coming off the pitch to discover leaders PSV Eindhoven had been held to a goalless draw by third-placed Ajax.
FC Utrecht claimed a 1-1 draw with NEC Nijmegen in their mid-table battle.
John Goosens gave NEC a ninth-minute lead but Ricky van Wolfswinkel equalised after 74 minutes.
