Ramos bullish Real can finish off Lyon

Sergio Ramos believes Real Madrid can finish the job at home after they secured a 1-1 draw with Lyon in the last-16 of the Champions League.

Karim Benzema's goal on his return to Lyon looked like it would hand Real a precious advantage ahead of the second leg in Spain but Bafetimbi Gomis' 82nd minute strike earned a share of the spoils.

However, Ramos thinks Jose Mourinho's side can finish the job on home soil. He told the club's website: "This is a positive result for us, but we could have sealed the tie.

"We will play the return leg at home before our fans, so we have to go through to the next round."

"We had three very clear chances on goal. This is a good result that gives us the advantage in the second leg. We must always be optimistic and dream about winning the tie."

Real Madrid general manager Jorge Valdano echoed Ramos' comments: "This draw is an optimum result for us, very important in the tie," he said. "This was a clear Champions League match, very intense, and Real Madrid never lost face.

"The team had a great attitude and had chances to score more goals in the second half thorugh two shots that eventually hit the post and a penalty that was not awarded.

"Benzema's goal leaves us in a favourable position in the tie. Real Madrid inspire confidence at the Bernabeu.

"We believe playing at our stadium and the support of our home crowd will help us breach the last-16 barrier."
