Maguire's strike leaves Hamilton adrift
Hamilton remain five points from safety after slumping to a 1-0 defeat against Aberdeen in the SPL clash at Pittodrie.
The visitors shaded a tightly-contested first half, registering seven shots on Jamie Langfield's goal, but they found themselves behind at the interval after Chris Maguire struck from the penalty spot following James McAlister's foul on Sone Aluko.
Accies continued to press after the break but, for all their possession, they were unable to find a breakthrough as Aberdeen continued their resurgence under Craig Brown.
Elsewhere, St Johnstone were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Dundee United that leaves both clubs locked on 30 points.
Neither side was able to muster a shot on target during a forgettable opening period that saw Dundee United fail to take advantage of a rash of corners.
The match burst into life after the interval as Murray Davidson twice went close for the home side, while David Goodwillie forced Peter Enckleman into a fine save. But, despite a frenetic end to the match, neither team was able to break the duck.
