Phil Jones has extended his Blackburn deal by a year and has now committed to the club until 2016.
Jones, an England under-21 international, is currently sidelined since suffering a torn cartilage in his right knee against West Ham in December. But he is back in training and could return to action next month.
Rovers manager Steve Kean said: "This is great news, especially on the back of so many other key players committing themselves to the club.
"Phil has made incredible progress over the past year or so and his form, prior to his unfortunate injury setback, attracted a lot of attention.
"It speaks volumes that he is happy to stay here for the long term and we are all absolutely delighted."
Jones made his Premier League debut against Chelsea last season and made another eight appearances for the first team.
