Lille stay clear after scrappy win

Ligue 1 leaders Lille continued their fairytale run with a 2-0 home win over Toulouse which re-established their five-point advantage in France.

Ivory Coast's Gervinho bundled the ball home on 38 minutes after Ligue 1 top scorer Moussa Sow's effort was palmed on to the post.

The goal summed up a scrappy affair on a heavy pitch but the hosts, held at Auxerre last weekend, deservedly doubled their lead in stoppage time when Tulio De Melo scored on a breakaway at their small stadium.

Rennes kept their Ligue 1 title challenge firmly on track with a comfortable 2-0 victory over strugglers Nice.

Goals from Victor Montano and Abdoulrazak Boukari did the damage at the Stade de la Route de Lorient as Frederic Antonetti's men climbed to second in the standings.

Valenciennes extended their unbeaten run to three games with a 3-0 victory over Brest to lift themselves further clear of the Ligue 1 relegation zone.

First-half goals from David Ducourtioux and Milan Bisevac put them in control against Brest and Gregory Pujol put the result beyond doubt after the interval. The result leaves Brest still without a victory away from home since October's impressive 2-0 success at Bordeaux.
