ESPNsoccernet understands West Brom have yet to make a decision on the identity of their new manager after Roy Hodgson emerged as the bookies' favourite.
Former Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton was expected to take the job after talks reached an advanced stage, and it was said Hodgson had turned down the role having departed Liverpool only last month.
However, a flurry of bets on Hodgson taking the job on Thursday indicated that there may be a twist in the tale.
A club source told ESPNsoccernet on Thursday night no decision has been taken as yet but that the shortlist has been narrowed to Hughton and Hodgson.
Caretaker boss Michael Appleton has expressed an interest in taking the role on a permanent basis and remains an outside bet, with the source adding that a decision on the appointment was "imminent".
