Moratti dismisses Rafa claims

Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has dismissed Rafael Benitez's claims the club's medics played a role in his disappointing spell at San Siro.

Benitez was dismissed in December as Inter fell off the pace in Serie A and finished second in their Champions League group and, in a recent interview with Marca, he said "injuries changed everything" after he had "started well".

He also stressed that he and his staff "did not have control over medical issues".

Moratti, though, believes Benitez is simply trying to pass the buck after seeing Leonardo guide Inter back into the title race.

"Let's say that, seeing Inter's recent results, we thought that there would be a reaction from Benitez," Moratti said. "I haven't spoken to our doctor about this, but I think that he is a little hurt by these comments.

"Dr Combi is one of several strong points at the club, even if Benitez means to say that he is to blame for the injuries. Unfortunately for him, it's not the case."

Striker Diego Milito has continued to suffer injury problems and on Monday was diagnosed with a second-degree hamstring strain, and Moratti joked: "[The injuries] were Benitez's prayers."

Inter are currently third in Serie A, five points behind leaders AC Milan with a game in hand.
