Capello: I made no deal with clubs

England coach Fabio Capello has rejected suggestions that he made an agreement with top Premier League clubs over the use of their players for the game against Denmark.

Capello made three changes at half-time, removing one player each from Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, but he insisted there was nothing to be read into that. Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney and Jack Wilshere all gave way.

"I hadn't agreed with the clubs who to take off,'' he stressed. "I decided on Tuesday I would make six substitutions and that is what I did. The clubs are happy with this and no-one got injured. The result was good as well, so everything has gone right for us.''

Capello had words of praise for Jack Wilshere after his full debut. He said: "Wilshere played very well. He played with confidence and made a lot of good passes. He also won the ball back for us a lot.

"The first-half was more difficult for us than the second but it is not easy for a young player like him to play at this level.''

Rooney believes England now have strength in depth after witnessing the likes of Wilshere and Ashley Young grab their chance with both hands against Denmark.

Rooney said: "I thought Jack Wilshere did really well. He is really composed on the ball and really good to play with. You can see the potential he has got. With Ashley, he has been playing behind the main forward for Villa this season. You could see he has benefited from that with the way he did against Denmark.

"He got his goal and he's always a threat in there. The manager is trying to give players a chance and they are starting to take those chances. The whole game was a valuable experience but especially for those lads who haven't got that many games under their belts.

"It will be a good experience for them for the games ahead like the Wales match next month. We are looking to that game now and hopefully we can get the three points there.''

Frank Lampard, who skippered England for the first time, echoed the sentiments of Rooney. He said: "We are happy to get the winning habit. It had been a long time that we have been apart (between games).

"With a slightly different team, I think we have got a good momentum now and had that in the game. It's not always easy when you are bringing on a lot of players but the players that have come in did very well. We have learned that Wilshere can come in and continue showing the composure he plays with for Arsenal.

"Credit to him on his full debut because it isn't easy, but he is only going to get better and better now. Darren Bent came in and scores early on, Ashley Young comes on for the second half and scores. It was very good to see that contribution from the players coming in.

"I think there's a lot to be learned from the teamwork from not being together for a long time.''

Lampard took great pride in leading out England, particularly after an injury-hit first half of the season. He said: "I was very proud to lead the team out. It was very nice for me personally. I have had a lot of caps to get to captain the team for the first time but I am very proud and pleased it ended in a win.

"Playing for your country is a huge honour and something we all enjoy. Coming back and playing, being around the squad and that feeling of coming out and playing is right up there. I missed it a lot when injured and it's good to be back.''
