Van Bommel leaves Spurs door open

Mark van Bommel has admitted he would still be open to a move to Tottenham in future, after Harry Redknapp expressed regret at missing out on the Dutchman's signing during the January transfer window.

Redknapp conceded that his hesitation caused the club to miss out on Van Bommel, who subsequently agreed a deal to move to Italian side AC Milan.

The Dutchman has now acknowledged his own disappointment that a deal could not be agreed, but admitted he would certainly consider re-opening discussions in future - having heard good things about the club from international team-mate Rafael Van der Vaart.

"We had some contact with Spurs, unfortunately it didn't work at the end," Van Bommel told Sky Sports. "It's one of my favourite clubs in England. I really love the stadium. I know the training ground because we trained there with the national team and of course Rafael told me a lot of good things.

"I don't know, how things will go [in future]. I'm really pleased with how Harry Redknapp speaks about me. That's always positive. I'd love to play for Spurs, I've told Rafael that as well.

"I told Rafael and okay, it didn't work out in the end. It's not good to look back, I'm always looking to the future and I'm happy now at Milan - but you never know what will happen."
