Beckham extends Tottenham stay

LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is to continue training with Tottenham for a further two weeks, the English club have announced.

• Kranjcar could still move on
• Pavlyuchenko: I want to leave
• Crouch: Transfer rumours hold no fear

Beckham, 35, has been spending part of the Major League Soccer off-season with Tottenham in order to keep in shape.

"David Beckham has extended his training spell at the club until February 22,'' a Tottenham statement said. "The England midfielder will now return to Los Angeles to report for pre-season training with LA Galaxy on February 24.''

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp initially tried to sign Beckham on a short-term loan, but Spurs could not agree a deal with the Galaxy.

But with the former England captain out of contract in November, Redknapp has been keen to maintain a strong relationship with him with a view to a possible future signing.

Spurs striker Peter Crouch recently told ESPNsoccernet that he felt Tottenham could manage fine without Beckham, though he admitted he had been impressed with the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star's impact in his short time at the club's Chigwell training ground.

"I was excited about the possibility of him playing, he's created a lot of goals for me for England and it would have been great if he could have played," Crouch told ESPNsoccernet. "He looked sharp in training and it would have been great for him to play for Spurs but it wasn't to be.

"I think the club and David himself are a bit disappointed about the way things panned out but we've got a fantastic squad, good enough to compete with or without Becks."
