United duo take January award

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson and striker Dimitar Berbatov have been named Barclays manager and player of the month for January.

Fergie: Neville won't leave United

United won four and drew one of their five matches in January to extend their unbeaten 2010-11 campaign.

It is the 25th time Ferguson has picked up the award and the second for Berbatov, who scored five goals in the month to take his tally for the season to 19.

With Berbatov enjoying his best season to date at Old Trafford, Ferguson is now hoping to see Wayne Rooney recover his best form.

Rooney scored twice in the midweek victory over Aston Villa and Ferguson said: "Hopefully - and there's every chance with scoring the kind of goals he scored the other night - he'll take off.

"Goalscorers are like that and hopefully that's what we're going to see with Wayne. He's got 14 league games, European games and FA Cup games - he could easily get a good average.

"Last season he was very consistent - in previous years he has scored in clutches of five or six games - but if he can get the consistency of last season then we are going to benefit from that.

"What Wayne has always had is a fantastic energy to play in a game. He's always committed to doing his best. The bonus is, as we saw the other night, he got two goals."
