Redknapp eyes fresh Beckham move

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits he could try to bring David Beckham to the club when his Los Angeles Galaxy contract expires later this year.

Tommy's Top 25: Where do Spurs rank?

• Harry: £35m Carroll was a 'gamble'
• King's passport blunder
• Modric out for two weeks
• Redknapp: I have cash to splash

Beckham has been training with Spurs during the Major League Soccer off-season but the clubs failed to reach an agreement that would allow the former Manchester United, Real Madrid and England star to play in the Premier League on loan.

Beckham is due to report back for pre-season duties at the start of next week but Redknapp, so impressed has he been by what he has seen in training from the veteran midfielder, is hoping he has not seen the last of Beckham at White Hart Lane.

"I would like to have had him playing as he has looked great in training," Redknapp said. "He is so slim and so fit, he is a fanatical trainer. He works in the morning and the afternoon in the gym. He just loves playing football. He could be at home now sitting around the pool but he is over here wanting to play football. Most footballers would want to be in Los Angeles. But that is what has made him what he is. He wants to keep playing and he is a mega rich man. He just loves the game."

Beckham has frequently returned to Europe to train or play - most notable with AC Milan - since moving to the United States in 2007. His lucrative deal is set to end in November when he will be 36, but his ability to deliver accurate passes and crosses has not diminished and Redknapp would like to see those skills in his side. Redknapp highlighted Rafael van der Vaart's deep angled cross for Peter Crouch to head home Tottenham's winner against Fulham in midweek as the sort of thing Beckham could bring on a regular basis.

Asked if he could make a fresh bid for Beckham when he becomes a free agent, Redknapp said: "I could do, yeah. I love him, I love the way he plays. That ball that van der Vaart hit for Crouchy, David hit about seven of them the other morning in training. It was like he had radar and Crouchy kept heading them in the goal. I kept saying 'That's what I have been asking you to do, lads'. David has been fantastic. He is a top-class bloke. He has been great around the place. You would love to have him at your club."
