Napoli falter, Palermo beat Juve

Napoli missed the chance to cut the gap on leaders AC Milan at the top of Serie A as goals from Davide Moscardelli and Gennaro Sardo consigned them to a 2-0 defeat against Chievo in Verona.

Walter Mazzarri's team had gone into the game in good form after a 4-0 win over Sampdoria on Sunday, but they were undone by an improving Chievo team.

Palermo leapfrogged Juventus with a 2-1 win over the Bianconeri at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

Fabrizio Miccoli and Giulio Migliaccio put the Sicilians two goals up within the first 20 minutes before Claudio Marchisio reduced the arrears ten minutes before the break.

Juve fought hard to try and get a point, but Palermo closed the door to take all three points and move up to seventh in the table, condemning Juve to a third-straight defeat and increasing the pressure on their coach Luigi Del Neri.

Roma missed a chance to move into third place after being held to a 1-1 draw by Brescia at the Stadio Olimpico. Marco Borriello put Roma in front shortly before the hour mark but the joy was shortlived as the visitors equalised 11 minutes later through Eder.

Mario Alberto Santana scored the only goal of the game as Fiorentina jumped above Genoa. Santana stabbed home from a tight angle five minutes before half-time as the hosts ended the day one point above their opponents in 11th place.

Substitute Ernesto Chevanton stole all three points for Lecce as his injury-time header secured a 1-0 win at Parma while Radja Nainggolan got the only goal as Cagliari won at Sampdoria.

The games between Cesena and Catania and Udinese and Bologna finished 1-1.
