Souayah named Tunisia coach again

Tunisia have confirmed the appointment of Ammar Souayah as new national team coach, with the former Etoile du Sahel boss replacing Faouzi Benzarti - who resigned less than a month after taking the reins.

Benzarti agreed to take the post in early January but decided to quit after the recent revolt in Tunisia, which saw former president Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali ousted, claiming that he had been forced to take the job by the toppled leader.

In an interview with Radio France International, Benzarti said: "The presidency encouraged me to take the job saying I had to be nationalist and do my best for our people.

"But now I feel free like the rest of the Tunisian people and we can make decisions not only for the common good but for ourselves too."

Benzarti added that the task he was assigned was to guide Tunisia to the 2012 African Nations Cup finals, something he believed would be too difficult to achieve, and said that the terms of his contract weren't acceptable.

Soyayah will now be charged with taking the Carthage Eagles to the 2012 finals in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, returning for a second spell having overseen Tunisia's 2002 World Cup campaign.

In Japan/South Korea, his side finished bottom of a group containing Belgium, Russia and Japan with a draw against the Red Devils providing their only point.
