Liverpool confirm Suarez signing

Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Ajax and Uruguay star Luis Suarez on a contract until the summer of 2016.

• Luis Suarez profile
• Torres deal agreed with Chelsea
• Blues on brink of Luiz deal
• Adam stays at Blackpool
• Liverpool to sign £35m Carroll
• Konchesky joins Forest on loan

Suarez joins the club for a fee that could reach €26.5 million (£22.7 million) and takes the No. 7 shirt made famous by his new manager, Kenny Dalglish.

A club statement read: "Luis Suarez has today completed his transfer from Ajax to Liverpool FC and signed a five-and-a-half-year deal that will keep him at Anfield until 2016.

"The club agreed a fee of up to €26.5 million with Ajax for the transfer of the Uruguayan international on Friday. The deal was subject to the completion of a medical, which the player has now passed. Luis Suarez will wear the No. 7 shirt for Liverpool."

Suarez scored a remarkable 49 goals in 48 games for the Eredivisie side last season and courted notoriety in the summer when he was dismissed for deliberate handball in Uruguay's victory over Ghana in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

The forward will now seek to strike up an understanding with Andy Carroll, who is poised to join the Reds in a £35 million deal from Newcastle United.

Liverpool have confirmed that Fernando Torres is set to join Chelsea after the club accepted an offer in the region of £45 million for the Spain international.
