Aguero signs new Atletico deal

Sergio Aguero has officially signed a contract extension with Atletico Madrid to effectively end transfer speculation linking the Argentina striker with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

• Redknapp denies Aguero rumours
• Keane signs for West Ham
• O'Hara joins Wolves on loan

Widespread reports on Sunday night suggested that Spurs had lodged a club-record £38.5 million bid for Auguero, 22, but both clubs later denied the claims.

Aguero agreed a two-and-a-half-year extension to his existing deal with Atletico earlier this month and formally signed the contract at a presentation in Madrid at 1200 GMT on Monday.

The new deal is thought to reduce the buy-out clause in the player's contract but Aguero himself insists he will not be leaving the Vicente Calderon.

"I'm staying here because I want to,'' Aguero told the club's website. "The club has always treated me very well. I am very happy, and that's why I renewed my contract.

"If in June, the club and I decide that it is best that I find a new club, it will be a decision we make together, but for now I am only thinking about trying to get into the Champions League with this team."
