Giampaolo Pazzini scored two goals on his debut for Inter Milan and then targeted the Serie A title with his new club.
Pazzini, who joined Inter from Sampdoria on Friday, came on as a second-half substitute at the San Siro and bagged a brace in a 3-2 victory over Palermo.
"It was impossible to imagine a day like this," the 26-year-old said. "It seems as though I am in a dream. It was a fantastic afternoon and I will find it very difficult to forget it.
"I felt really comfortable and happy in the pitch and I have to thank my team-mates for helping me out.''
The victory lifted Inter to fourth in the standings, level on 38 points with Roma, with both sides having a game in hand. Inter lie nine points behind league leaders AC Milan, who won 2-0 at Catania on Saturday.
Pazzini firmly believes Inter can challenge for the scudetto despite their current deficit with their city rivals.
He said: "Inter has proved to be in the race. This team has so much will to win and we will continue to show it.''
Inter visit Bari on Thursday before hosting Roma on Sunday.
