Monaco hold Marseille to 0-0 draw

Marseille missed the chance to make up ground on the Ligue 1 leaders as they failed to find a way past struggling Monaco.

Marseille missed a number of decent chances in an entertaining first half, Edouard Cisse and Loic Remy sending headers narrowly wide for Marseille. But they had to settle for a 0-0 draw and a point to lie fifth, eight points behind leaders Lille.

Second-bottom Monaco moved to within two points of safety.

Bordeaux players eased the pressure on coach Jean Tigana by posting a workmanlike 2-0 victory over lacklustre Nice in their Ligue 1 encounter at Stade Chaban Delmas.

The Girondins were without a win in six league games heading into today's encounter and were also dumped out of the Coupe de France by unfancied Angers last weekend, and Tigana came into the game amid increasing speculation over his future.

But goals from Ludovic Sane and Anthony Modeste either side of the break lifted the gloom as Bordeaux climbed to eighth in the standings.

Nice, meanwhile, remain in trouble at the wrong end of the table and are flirting dangerously with the relegation zone after their eighth defeat of the season.

Montpellier's hopes of landing a European place at the end of the season were given a boost in the form of a vital 2-1 away win at struggling Nancy.

The home side, who are just three points away from the drop zone, started perfectly, with Youssouf Hadji giving them the lead with just two minutes on the clock.

However, Montpellier equalised five minutes later through Souleymane Camara and went on to win it in the second half thanks to Garry Bocaly's hit.
