Iachini replaces Beretta at Brescia

Serie A side Brescia have sacked coach Mario Beretta and reinstated his predecessor Giuseppe Iachini, the club has confirmed.

• Serie A: Pazzini stars on debut

Beretta was dismissed after Sunday's 3-0 loss to Chievo, their fifth defeat in six Serie A games. The defeat left Brescia second-bottom of the standings, three points adrift of safety after 22 games.

A statement from Brescia read: "The club announces it has dismissed Mario Beretta as coach of the first team and thanks the coach for the work done. From tomorrow, the team will be coached by Giuseppe Iachini.''

Beretta took the reins of the promoted outfit after Iachini was sacked in December after a poor run of results.

Iachini, 46, led Brescia to promotion to Italy's top flight last summer in his first season at the club.

He said: "I am saddened for Mario Beretta but football is like this. I return with enthusiasm and willingness to do well.

"The team is in a difficult situation but I hope I can help my players rediscover the spirit that saw us gain promotion to the top flight last summer.''

Brescia travel to the Stadio Olimpico to face Roma on Wednesday.
