Spurs fail with £25m Carroll bid

Tottenham Hotspur have failed with a reported offer of £25 million for Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.

• Harry rules out Bale sale
• Spurs make Parker approach

Carroll is said to be happy to stay at Newcastle, despite the offer from Spurs, and ESPNsoccernet has learned he will not try to put any pressure on Newcastle to force through a move.

Chelsea have also been linked with Carroll, and they might make a last-minute move if they fail with their final bid for Fernando Torres. If Chelsea offered the same for Carroll as they intend to for Torres then Newcastle might find it hard to resist.

Harry Redknapp has been linked with a move for the 22-year-old England international for some time, but he is not alone, as Chelsea have been linked with him for almost as long.

A close associate of the recently-capped England international told ESPNsoccernet on Saturday: "You can take it from me that Andy will not be asking for a transfer. Whether or not Spurs have a bid, whether it is £25 million or not, Andy has not been told, and in any case, he is not agitating for a move.

"Andy is happy where he is, and there are no bad feelings between him and the club over any transfer offers that the club opt to turn down. it is entirely up to Newcastle whether they wish to sell Andy or not.

"But there are no contentious issues here. Andy loves Newcastle, he loves playing for them, and he is happy to stay if they want him to."

There is also the chance of a lucrative new contract, even though Carroll only signed a new deal last summer, if he doesn't opt for the bright lights of London.

The striker, who travelled to Sweden on Friday to address a troublesome thigh injury, has scored 11 goals for the club this season.

Carroll's impressive form for the Magpies saw him win his first international cap in the game between England and France in November.
