Brisbane close in on Premier Plate

Brisbane Roar closed in on their first A-League Premier's Plate with a 2-1 win over Melbourne Heart at Skilled Park - and broke an Australian domestic record in the process.

Jean Carlos Solozano gave Brisbane the lead after five minutes and James Meyer latched on to Thomas Broich's pass to double the lead just after the hour mark.

Gerald Sibon pulled a goal back in the 75th minute but it was not enough to prevent Brisbane extending their unbeaten run to 23 games - surpassing APIA Leichhardt's mark set in 1987.

Brisbane now need just a point to seal the Premier Plate and a place in the 2012 Asian Champions League after Central Coast Mariners won 2-1 at Adelaide United.

The visitors were two goals to the good in the opening 30 minutes at Hindmarsh Stadium. Patricio Perez put Central Coast ahead in the 11th minute when he skipped past a challenge and slotted home before setting up Josh Rose for the second.

Travis Dodd found the back of the net from close range in the final minute but it was too little too late for Reds.

Finally, Grand Final winners Sydney kept hopes of defending their title alive with a 2-0 win at Perth Glory.

Nick Carle and Bruno Cazarine combined for the former to open the scoring with nine minutes gone at nib Stadium, before the latter latched onto Dimitri Petratos' flick eight minutes into the second period to seal the points.
