Sevilla chief defends fans

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido is happy for the authorities to prosecute the fan who threw a bottle at Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas on Wednesday but says the incident should not mar the reputation of the club's fans.

Sevilla 0-1 Real Madrid

Casillas was floored by a bottle launched from the home crowd during Madrid's 1-0 victory in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg.

"The police have cameras all over the ground and they will drop the full weight of the law on that individual," Del Nido told Marca. "But one act cannot tarnish our people. The fans have been tremendous."

Speaking after the game, Casillas echoed Del Nido's sentiments.

"It is a shame that the fans have been wonderful helping their team, and then someone does this which causes problems for others," he told the club's official website. "If the cameras have caught the incident, I hope that action is taken."
