Commons set for Celtic

Celtic have agreed a deal to sign Scotland international Kris Commons from Derby.

• Celtic blog: A Common position

Commons, who joined Derby on a free transfer from arch-rivals Nottingham Forest in 2008, is out of contract in the summer and was pursued by both Celtic and Rangers.

However, Rangers boss Walter Smith said this week that any move for the 27-year-old midfielder was "finished" and Derby chief executive Tom Glick has confirmed Commons is set to move to Parkhead.

"We received and accepted a bid from Celtic for the transfer of Kris and we have given both the player and Celtic permission to talk personal terms," he told the Derby Telegraph.

"We understand that should be happening very soon, if it has not already happened. I do not know the timetable but I expect Kris will be in Glasgow on Thursday.

"The deal is not completed but whatever funding comes in from the deal is available immediately to the manager or whenever he should choose to invest it. We are constantly looking at options to improve the squad. Specifically, we are focused right now on attacking options."

Celtic are believed to have bid around £300,000 for Commons.
