Dalglish frustrated by transfer impasse

Frustrated Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish says if he does not add to his squad before the end of the transfer window, it will not be for a lack of trying.

• Liverpool 1-0 Fulham: Reds' luck comes in
• Dalglish: We won't settle for 7th
• Saturday deadline for Suarez

Ajax coach Frank de Boer has placed a Saturday deadline to finalise a deal for forward Luis Suarez - despite the fact both clubs are miles apart in their valuations - while the pursuit of Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam has also stumbled over the transfer fee.

Having watched his side grind out a 1-0 win at home to Fulham on Wednesday night, Dalglish would like to bring in reinforcements, especially after selling Ryan Babel to Hoffenheim, but time and money may conspire against him.

"The finance is there. Everything is in place but it's difficult to get players out of other clubs at this time,'' said the Scot. "If we do not get anyone it is not for the want of trying.''

Although his side recorded a second successive victory to lift them up to seventh in the Premier League, their highest position of the season, the team is by no means the complete article. In contrast to the rather fluid performance in the win over Wolves at the weekend, the match against the Cottagers was a much more attritional affair.

When Fernando Torres had a goal wrongly ruled out for offside in only the sixth minute it appeared the bad luck which Dalglish has highlighted in his short reign was continuing to blight them.

However, in the 52nd minute they received their slice of fortune - quite literally - when John Pantsil's attempted clearance spun off his left boot and over the goalline. Liverpool could have taken the lead from Torres' shot which rebounded off the post to prompt the melee in the six-yard area but instead of capitalising the Reds found themselves hanging on at the end. Raul Meireles, who put in another assured performance, hacked a Brede Hangeland header off the line with goalkeeper Jose Reina beaten to ensure a second successive clean sheet.
