Adelaide United midfielder Fabian Barbiero says he's shattered to miss the rest Aof the -League season with an ankle injury.
Barbiero will be sidelined for Adelaide's finals campaign after injuring ankle ligaments in a training mishap last week.
The 26-year-old missed the initial nine games of the season due to problems in the same ankle.
"When it twisted again, I felt a sharp pain in the same spot, but I didn't know ... how bad it was," Barbiero said.
"It is shattering, obviously with the finals coming up we're in a good position, the team has been doing well and I was hoping to be part of it."
Barbiero had surgery on Tuesday to repair the ankle.
"Hopefully the operation will fix it and prevent me from having any problems in the long term," Barbiero said.
Third-placed Adelaide host second-placed Central Coast Mariners on Saturday night.
