Hammers think twice about Diouf deal

West Ham United have been offered Blackburn Rovers forward El-Hadji Diouf but the relegation strugglers have a number of concerns about the controversial Senegal international.

• Nelsen signs new Rovers deal
• Steve Kean signs until 2013
• Argentine Riquelme not arriving

Blackburn's new boss Steve Kean believes Diouf is too high maintenance after all his off and on the pitch problems and has made the striker available for transfer.

Earlier this month Diouf was forced to defend himself after QPR boss Neil Warnock accused him of mocking Jamie Mackie after he broke his leg during his side's FA Cup tie at Ewood Park and the 30-year-old was accused of spitting at West Ham fans when he was playing for Liverpool in 2002.

But it is not only the controversy that follows Diouf that has forced the Hammers to think twice about the possible transfer, the forward's strike rate is also in question.

West Ham sources told ESPNsoccernet: "Diouf is a possibility. We have quite a few strikers now to choose from. But does he score enough goals? We are currently weighing up the situation but are aware of his availability."

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that on-loan Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge is costing the Hammers £2.5 million. Not only are West Ham picking up his full £90,000-a-week wages, but they are also paying Manchester City £300,000 for the loan fee, and £200,000 for the agent's fees.

"We have been linked with Joe Cole, but how many £90,000-a-week footballers can a club like West Ham sign up?" the West Ham insider told ESPNsoccernet.

"It's unrealistic, but we are pushing the boat out to try to stay up and Wayne Bridge is a perfect example, with a six month loan spell costing wages of about £2 million, £300,000 loan fee on top of the wages, plus a £200,000 agents fee."
