Boussoufa takes Golden Shoe

Romelu Lukaku, the top scorer with champions Anderlecht last season, failed to make it a hat-trick of prizes on Wednesday night as his team-mate Mbark Boussoufa claimed Belgian football's Golden Shoe for best individual.

Boussoufa, who received the trophy from Morocco national manager Erik Gerets, finished 89 points ahead of his friend Lukaku to claim his second Golden Shoe, after winning it in 2006.

The bond between both players is so strong that Lukaku, disappointed but visibly pleased for the winner, was invited on stage by Boussoufa, who said: "He deserves this just as much as I do and I want to congratulate him on a fantastic season."

Boussoufa is only the eighth player - and second foreign player, after the Swede Par Zetterberg, also of Anderlecht - to claim the trophy more than once since it was first awarded in 1954.

Everton are believed to have shown interest in the player as a replacement for Steven Pienaar and Boussoufa indicated that he would welcome a move to Goodison Park.

"Listen, I am very happy here but you never know what will happen in football," he said. "Once all parties are happy, you can move on. Everton? They are a very good club and to play in England would be fantastic."

Manchester City defender Vincent Kompany won the prize for best Belgian player in a foreign league. The award was brought to him in Manchester by his father and sister. Kompany seemed honoured and spoke of his wish for a great year for Belgian football, including qualification for Euro 2012.

The award for the best goal of the season went to SK Lierse's Wesley Sonck for a phenomenal effort against RC Genk in December. Referee Frank De Bleeckere, who was recently voted fourth best ref in the world, and is in his year of retirement, was given a lifetime achievement award by his father, who was also a referee.
