Joe Cole's troubled Liverpool career dropped to new depths on Wednesday night when he was named in the side to face Manchester City in the Lancashire Senior Cup.
Seldom does any senior player ever appear in the competition, with the team usually made up entirely of youth players. Cole was named alongside Peter Gulacsi, John Flanagan, Jack Robinson, Stephen Darby, Danny Wilson, Michael Roberts, Dani Pacheco, Gerardo Bruna, Thomas Ince and Nikola Saric.
Those ten players have the sum total of seven substitute appearances in the Premier League between them, while Cole has made 238 starts with 82 games from the bench.
The former Chelsea and West Ham United midfielder played the first half of the match before being replaced at the interval by David Amoo.
Cole was involved in the only goal of the game as his shot was saved by David Gonzalez, only for the ball to run for Bruna to score.
