Butcher slams SPL plans

Inverness boss Terry Butcher has slammed the Scottish Premier League's proposals to create a new league of ten teams.

• Moir: It's all about the money

Under the new plans, the top flight would be limited to ten, while the second-tier would contain 12 teams and member clubs have already been asked to vote on the proposal. However, Butcher has voiced his opposition.

"We are bitterly disappointed that we're being bullied into submitting to this 10-team league, which we feel is utterly wrong,'' he said. ''We've been relegated, we know the cost of relegation and we know that other clubs will get relegated if we go to a ten-team league.

"People call it Armageddon but I think it's worse than that when innocent people lose their jobs and players get sacked. I've been through all that and it's not a nice process.

"It's going to be a crisis for some clubs and I can't believe other clubs are voting for that. People say they want change but I can't see why there should be so much dramatic change. I'm still trying to concentrate on football, but I feel we are on the edge of a precipice here and we don't want to be pushed over. At this moment, we feel like we are."
