Szczesny hopes to secure regular role

Polish youngster Wojciech Szczesny insists he is ready to seize his chance and become Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper.

Szczesny, 20, has enjoyed an unexpected run of games in the Arsenal first team in recent weeks, starting the 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford before featuring in cup games against Leeds and Ipswich and the weekend's 3-0 win over West Ham.

His path to the first XI has been opened up by injuries to both Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski, neither of whom have been particularly convincing when starting this season.

Szczesny will start the FA Cup third-round replay against Leeds United on Wednesday and hopes to prolong his impressive form in order to establish himself as the club's No. 1.

"I treat every single game as my chance," Szczesny said. "I just want to do my best and leave the decisions to the manager. The manager shows faith in me, so I believe I am ready. Any time I get a chance I will try to prove to him I am ready.

"We have not conceded a lot of goals recently. We have done pretty well in the Premier League. It has the look of a decent back four and we just want to keep it going with as many clean sheets as possible."

Meanwhile, Arsenal's January signing Ryo Miyaichi has joined Dutch club Feyenoord. The teenager, signed from Chukyodai Chuyko High School, will gain experience in the Eredivisie before returning to North London.
