Villa move for Rovers defender Samba

Blackburn Rovers defender Chris Samba has revealed he could join Aston Villa after dialogue began between the two clubs regarding a January transfer.

• Samba in new Venky's attack
• Rovers complete Jones deal
• Rovers ready to sell Diouf
• On The Move: January 18

Samba has expressed a desire to leave Blackburn after becoming unsettled by the club's decision to sack manager Sam Allardyce and replace him with Steve Kean.

The defender, signed from Hertha Berlin in January 2007, accused Rovers owners Venky's of a "lack of respect" for failing to adequately communicate their plans for the club to the playing staff.

Arsenal have been linked with Samba, along with French side Lyon, but the defender has revealed Villa have made an approach to his current employers.

"I heard about interest from Lyon, but there is no contact," Samba told France Football. "However, there is contact between Blackburn and Aston Villa."

Villa have already signed Jean Makoun from Lyon in January and are close to completing a £24 million deal for Sunderland striker Darren Bent.
