Babel talks up Suarez swap

Liverpool striker Ryan Babel has revealed he is keen to return to Ajax on loan as part of a potential deal for forward Luis Suarez.

Agent: Reds want Van Bommel

The Reds are reported to have made contact with Ajax on Saturday over a deal for Uruguay international Suarez. Negotiations are said to be ongoing and Babel, who left Ajax in 2007, has revealed he would welcome the opportunity for more first-team football.

"The transfer of Suarez to Liverpool opens the door for me to go to Ajax," he told De Telegraaf. "If Liverpool and Ajax - whether in combination with Luis - can reach an agreement over me I will surely come to the club.

"For the chance to play I am willing to settle for far less pay. For a player of my age it is important to be playing week in week out."

It appears Liverpool would prefer Babel to leave on a permanent deal, but the player is reluctant.

"Ryan will only consider a permanent move if it is perfect in every sense," his agent, Winnie Haatrecht, told Dutch magazine Voetbal International. "If he signs a three-and-a-half year contract now, maybe he will be confronted with a new manager in July. Ryan would prefer to go through pre-season with a manager who really likes him, which is why he would rather be loaned out."

He added: "They [Liverpool] have to re-finance the squad and Babel is an interesting asset for a sale."

Ajax coach Frank de Boer has opened the door to a potential bid for Babel, but has warned Liverpool that it will take an 'absurd' amount to tempt them into selling Suarez.

"The advantage is that he knows the Ajax system well," De Boer said of Babel.

Ajax would in all probability only be able to finance a deal for Babel if they sell Suarez and De Boer has warned that they will not allow the striker to leave for a pittance.

"We are resolute and do not want to lose Suarez but, if a 'super club' offers an absurd amount, we would let him go," he told Ajax Life. "As it stands at the moment, he will stay with us for the remainder of the season."
