Pardew: Carroll not for sale

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has told Tottenham not to bother putting together a £30 million bid for striker Andy Carroll as the Magpies will not be entertaining any offers for him.

Carroll, 22, was in the stands at the Stadium of Light on Sunday to watch Newcastle's 1-1 draw with Sunderland as he continued his recovery from a thigh injury.

He arrived on Wearside after waking this morning to see reports that Spurs are ready to step up their bid to sign him during the remaining two weeks of the transfer window.

But speaking after the game, Pardew said: "They can put together whatever they like. He is not for sale. I am going to say it one last time, he is not for sale.''

Newcastle meet Spurs at St James' Park next Saturday, and Pardew is hopeful that Carroll will be fit to line up against his suitors.

"I hope so," Pardew said. "He was certainly smarting in the dressing room today wanting to play.''

Asked if he was tempted, Pardew said with a smile: "No, not with one leg, no. I think that would have been a bit harsh on the other strikers.''
