Celtic abandon Huseklepp pursuit

Celtic have admitted defeat in their attempts to sign Norway striker Erik Huseklepp.

Celtic had been involved in protracted negotiations with SK Brann over Huseklepp, who declared himself willing to waive a scheduled bonus worth a reported £180,000 if he was sold.

However, Celtic assistant manager Johann Mjallby has now said there is no chance of a deal being reached to bring the 26-year-old to Parkhead.

Mjallby said: "It's dead. We put in a bid that we thought was fair enough. They didn`t agree with that.

"You can say that`s down the drain and we`ll look for other targets."

Meanwhile, Toronto FC head coach and technical director Aron Winter has revealed the club rejected a request from Celtic to extend Dwayne De Rosario's trial.

"Celtic inquired about the possibility of extending Dwayne's time with them," Winter said. "My preference is for Dwayne to start the season with Toronto FC right from training camp.

"We are making a fresh start and need a strong competitive camp. Dwayne is the captain and leader and needs to be part of building a new winning culture."
