Blackburn to investigate Diouf claims

Blackburn boss Steve Kean has revealed that the club will launch an internal investigation into claims that striker El-Hadji Diouf abused QPR striker Jamie Mackie in last Saturday's FA Cup clash at Ewood Park.

• Santa Cruz close to Rovers return
• Mackie slams 'repulsive' Diouf
• Jensen named Rovers assistant

Mackie broke his leg in a challenge with Gael Givet during the game, but claimed afterwards that he was subjected to a torrent of abuse from Diouf while he lay on the floor in agony.

The QPR striker said: "I'm lying on the floor with a bad injury and even his team-mates were embarrassed by what Diouf was saying. It's hard for me to even repeat what he said. He called me a disgrace - but that wasn't the worst of it. He said: 'F*** you and f*** your leg'."

The comments prompted QPR boss Neil Warnock to label Diouf a "sewer rat" after the game, and Kean has now promised that Blackburn will get to the bottom of the allegations against the striker, who is also the subject of scrutiny from the FA.

"We are trying to investigate absolutely everything and we are speaking with the players who were on the pitch and with El-Hadji," Kean said. "Hopefully, whatever comes out will be the full story and we will act on that."

A number of QPR players have publicly slammed Diouf on Twitter, including goalkeeper Paddy Kenny - who said:"Diouf will get it one day, what goes around comes around."

Diouf has regularly hit the headlines since first arriving in English football as a £10 million signing for Liverpool in 2002. He was fined two weeks wages by the Reds for spitting at Celtic fans during a UEFA Cup encounter, and while at Bolton was banned for three games in 2004 for spitting in Portsmouth defender Arjan de Zeeuw's face.
