Dalglish happy with six-month spell

Kenny Dalglish has denied reports he made Liverpool bow to demands over the length of his tenure before taking the job.

Dalglish took over from Roy Hodgson for Sunday's FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United. The only goal of the game, an early penalty after Daniel Agger was adjudged to have brought down Dimitar Berbatov, was labelled a "joke" by Dalglish, who also was not happy with the sending off of Steven Gerrard.

He returned to work on Monday to read reports claiming he made demands to stay as manager for longer than the six-month spell stated, but insists he made no such request.

"My understanding is that it's until the end of the season, and that's no problem for me," he said in Monday's press conference. "I've heard stories about demanding this and demanding that. I got a call Saturday morning, I got asked if I would take the job, and it was a straight-forward 'yes'.

"I came back here to work at a club to which myself and my family are eternally grateful, and if I can get to the end of the season I think I'll be one of the longest-serving managers in the Premiership!

"We aim to gain as many victories as we possibly can. We will do our very best and hope it's good enough. It'll be nice to get out there on the football pitch to see how the players can perform. We had a training session today and the lads did really well."

The first signing of Dalglish's second reign at Anfield was first-team coach Steve Clarke, who played a big role in helping Chelsea win the Premier League with Jose Mourinho.

"It's important we have good backroom staff, and Steve certainly comes into that category," Dalglish said. "I was asked yesterday about backroom staff, Damien [Comolli] and I had a conversation, and Steve's name came up.

"To be fair to Steve, he was phoned Sunday night, and he was here Monday morning for training. That tells you something about Liverpool Football Club. Steve's had success at several clubs, none more so than with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea, so I think we've got a good guy there and he'll work alongside Sammy [Lee]."
