No new striker for Mourinho

Jose Mourinho says he is unlikely to sign a new striker in January, meaning that Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor will in all likelihood not be moving to Real Madrid.

Real are light in attack following the news that Gonzalo Higuain will be out until March due to surgery, while Karim Benzema has only scored nine goals in 43 league games since joining the club from Lyon in 2009.

Mourinho had asked for reinforcements, with Adebayor reportedly a loan target for the former Chelsea manager, but Florentino Perez and the Real board have told their coach that the current squad will have to suffice.

When asked if he still had hope that a new striker would arrive at the club, Mourinho replied: "Not much. I spoke with the president a couple of days ago and nothing. My relationship with him is very good and I hope that it will be like that until the end, or even better. It`s always been like that with my presidents.

"But at this moment, after the investments that the club have made in the last two years, the club aren`t keen on signing another striker. Also, because this is Madrid, you cannot just sign any player and to me it doesn`t seem a very easy situation.

"I have to try and get the best of the players that I have, who are numerous and very good. I only have one centre-forward, who is Benzema, but we need to face up to the situation in front of us.

"I suppose that until the end of January we will continue talking about this because the window is open until the end of the month, but I think that this is the group of players that I will have until the end of the season."

Meanwhile, the agent of Inter striker Samuel Eto'o has firmly denied rumours that his client could have been a target for Real.

"Real Madrid are not looking for Eto'o, he will play with Inter until 2014," Josep Maria Mesalles told Sky Sport Italia. "Eto'o is in Cameroon and he has never spoken. He is fine at Inter and wants to remain there for the remainder of his contract which expires in 2014."
