Milan formally complete Cassano deal

Serie A leaders Milan have confirmed the signing of Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano on what is believed to be a three-and-a-half year contract.

• Rovers deny Ronnie interest
• On The Move: Ronaldinho latest

Cassano departs the Genoese club in acrimonious circumstances after a bitter falling out with president Riccardo Garrone that resulted in Samp attempting to terminate his contract.

A Lega Serie A arbitration panel ruled Cassano's salary should be halved as a result of his actions and Milan took advantage of the rupture in relations when agreeing to sign the talented forward, who has displayed a tendency to attract controversy throughout his career.

Milan, Samp and Cassano himself have all contributed towards a payment of €5 million that was owed to his former club Real Madrid and the transfer has now been formally ratified following the opening of the January transfer window.

A short statement on the club's official website read: "AC Milan announce the acquisition of Antonio Cassano."

The temperamental forward started his career at Bari before growing into a forward of some repute during a five-year spell with Roma.

After an unsuccessful spell with Real, he returned to Italy with Samp in 2007 and produced some of his finest form, eventually winning an Italy recall under Cesare Prandelli having been overlooked by his predecessor Marcello Lippi for the 2010 World Cup.
