Nelsen: Blackburn's future is bright

Stand-in Blackburn Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen claims new owners Venky's have an "exciting" vision for the club despite the turbulent start to their era in charge.

• Kean confident Samba will stay

The Indian poultry giant have come in for criticism from players and fans since sacking manager Sam Allardyce and replacing him with Steve Kean.

Regular skipper Christopher Samba was so angry at Allardyce's departure that he handed in a transfer request, prompting Kean to pass the armband to New Zealand captain Nelsen while Samba's future is resolved.

But Nelsen, after meeting with the owners, feels Rovers can look to the future with optimism, assuring fans that the short term pain is for long term gain.

"It's been a crazy couple of weeks but our owners really have a vision in terms of how they see the club and they want to take it. It's very exciting,'' Nelsen said in the Christchurch Press newspaper. "They didn't have Sam in their vision, he's paid the price through no fault of his own. But it could be really exciting for Blackburn.''

Nelsen also revealed he would he happy to hand the captaincy back to Samba, should he decide to stay and play for Kean.

"I will definitely give it back to Chris when the manager feels he's got his head right and is right behind Blackburn 100%,'' added Nelsen.
