Nerlinger: New full-back not imperative

Bayern Munich director of sport Christian Nerlinger insists it is not imperative for the club to sign a new full-back in January.

The Bundesliga champions have been linked with Genoa's Italy international Domenico Criscito, whom Nerlinger has been to see in action, and more recently with Everton's Leighton Baines.

But Nerlinger told Munich's Tz newspaper: ''I don't think that we desperately need to sign a new full-back.

''You just have to look at what Diego (Contento) has achieved. He has played really well recently and that really has to be honoured.''

Bayern did not sign a single player in the summer and coach Louis van Gaal recently admitted that it may have been an error not strengthening his side.

However, an improvement in the club's form of late has meant new signings, which seemed inevitable only a month ago, may now not be made.

''We will only get active if the quality is considerably greater than what we already have,'' added Nerlinger.
