Venky's, Asia's largest poultry group, announced on Monday to general bemusement that they had sacked manager Sam Allardyce despite the club sitting a respectable 13th in the table.
Steve Kean has been installed as caretaker manager and could have as long as the remainder of the season to stake his claim to take the job on a permanent basis.
However, Venky's chairwoman Anuradha Desai admits the company have mulled over bringing in Maradona, who coached Argentina at the World Cup finals.
"We thought about Maradona as a coach after we took over," Desai told the Daily Mirror. "Talks were at the initial stage then, but there is no development on that front yet.
"For now, the current coach will be the manager till the end of the season. There is no question of signing anyone for such a short time."
