Ferguson rejects Wenger's pitch talk

Sir Alex Ferguson has hit back at Arsene Wenger's criticism of the Old Trafford pitch, claiming Manchester United were simply superior to Arsenal in their top of the table clash on Monday.

After United beat Arsenal 1-0 to move top of the Premier League, Wenger blamed the "very bad" surface at Old Trafford for making the "technical quality of the game...very average", saying it was "bouncy and slippery".

Arsenal didn't produce their usual slick passing game and couldn't crack United's terrific defence, but Ferguson said Wenger shouldn't deflect attention to the pitch from his side's loss and defended the Old Trafford groundstaff.

"I don't think the pitch had anything to do with it," he said in the Guardian. "We were just the better team. The pitch was good, fine. I've no problem with the pitch at all and it was a surprise to everyone that this was mentioned. I don't think anyone can complain about our pitch."
