Parkinson eager to earn Spurs trip

Charlton boss Phil Parkinson says his side are desperate to see off Luton in Thursday's FA Cup replay against Luton to book a date with Tottenham in the third round.

Luton v Charlton preview

Charlton, currently second in League One, were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Conference National side Luton during their second-round meeting last month, and the winner at Kenilworth Road will be rewarded with a trip to Spurs.

Charlton already had a replay after their first-round tie with Barnet but, while the fixture congestion is less than helpful as Parkinson tries to secure a return to the Championship, he is desperate to keep the cup run going.

"The Spurs tie adds extra to this game," he told the Bexley Times. "The possibility of going to White Hart Lane is a big prize.

"We've been saying 'Wouldn't it be great to get to the third round and pull out a big Premier League team?' The carrot is there."

He added: "We have to utilise the squad with each game coming up as we've got three in quick succession.

"We've got to try and pick three teams who can be successful in all three games. I didn't want a replay against Luton, or Barnet, but that's what we've got and now we have to finish the job."

Luton manager Richard Money, meanwhile, says his players are not yet talking about a trip to White Hart Lane.

"I haven't heard Spurs mentioned once," he said on Luton Today. "I think they are just focused on playing well.

"I think the fact it's Charlton at home and we played so well in the first game is buzz enough. No-one has even mentioned the TV. The TV is a financial incentive for the club."
