Eto'o handed three-match ban

Samuel Eto'o has been given a three-match ban and €30,000 fine after his attack on Chievo defender Bostjan Cesar on Sunday.

Eto'o remained on the pitch as the referee failed to notice his butt on Cesar's chest in the 92nd minute of the 2-1 defeat, an attack which came in retaliation for a first-half punch from the centre-back.

The Cameroon striker, who is Serie A's joint top scorer with nine goals alongside Napoli's Edinson Cavani, will miss games against Parma, Lazio and Fiorentina.

The news will mean Inter - already in the midst of an injury crisis - are without their star striker as they look to turn round a disappointing start to the season.

Eto'o has since apologised for his actions, and Inter have revealed their intention to appeal the decision.

A statement from the Nerazzurrisaid: "Inter announces that it will appeal against the three-match ban handed to Samuel Eto'o.''

Rafael Benitez's side have won just once in the past six league games and are currently sixth in the standings after 13 matches.
