Benitez 'did not see' penalty incident

Inter Milan boss Rafael Benitez said he did not see the controversial penalty that allowed Samuel Eto'o to level in the 1-1 draw with Brescia.

Inter had been trailing Andrea Caracciolo's 14th-minute strike when Eto'o appeared to slip in the area. Brescia players strongly contested the decision, but Eto'o converted to salvage a point.

"I didn't have the best of views from the bench," Benitez told Sky Italia. "Nevertheless, considering where the referee was positioned I think he was well placed to make the decision."

He added: "Although we are not delighted with the result, I thought my men worked hard tonight. The boys created a number of chances out there and we could have stolen the victory late on."

There were further problems for Benitez as Walter Samuel, Wesley Sneijder and Maicon all had to be substituted.

"We were riddled by injuries tonight," he said. "Samuel has a sprained knee and that looks serious. Sneijder felt faint in the locker room. Maicon had a problem with his knee but had been doing better and put a lot of strain on his legs in the last two games. There were too many problems stopping us from controlling the game."

Brescia coach Giuseppe Iachini felt his team could have come away with the three points.

"It's a shame we didn't win tonight as we played a great game," he said. "I think my men deserve merit for the way they kept their discipline out there and the number of chances going forward.

"We were made to pay by a dubious penalty decision but maybe it would have been better to have doubled the lead before that incident.

"Naturally we suffered a little towards the end but, after having held the lead for so long, I think this is normal. I was happy with the way we controlled possession at times and we mustn't forget that coming here to San Siro is never an easy feat."
