Ginola: Gourcuff is the best in a generation

Former France star David Ginola claims that Lyon's Yoann Gourcuff is the best player produced by the country for a generation.

Gourcuff has often been described as the 'new Zinedine Zidane' and joined Lyon from Bordeaux in the summer for a fee of around €22 million. However, Ginola maintains that the talented midfielder is still suffering mentally after the failures of the French team at the 2010 World Cup and pleaded for the playmaker to be given time to rebuild his confidence.

"I think someone like Yoann Gourcuff is probably the most talented player of his generation, but the things that went on in South Africa affected him a lot,'' Ginola told Sport.co.uk.

"I spoke to Laurent Blanc not long ago and he said that the guy is not himself anymore and so will need a lot of time to recover from that. Now he's starting to think more positively and he's in a different mood so I guess he'll be the one to watch in the next few years.''
