Terry puts penalty behind him for Moscow return

John Terry will not let the spectre of his missed penalty in the final of the 2008 Champions League hang over him when he returns to Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Tuesday night.

Terry famously had the chance to win the competition for Chelsea when stepping up to take a spot-kick in a shoot-out against Manchester United, but slipped on the turf and hit the post, allowing Sir Alex Ferguson's side to recover and lift the trophy.

The Chelsea captain insists the incident will not prey on his mind when the Blues take on Spartak Moscow though.

"I haven't [watched the penalty], but there will be a day [when I do]," Terry said. "But I don't want to go back and touch over it. I feel as though I have got it out of my system now. I just want to win the competition.

"Going back, people are going to bring things up, but we are going back there to pick up three points. It is a tough place to go. Other teams in the past have found it difficult to go there with the pitch."

Terry is currently struggling with a back injury that forced him to miss England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro, although he did play in Saturday's draw against Aston Villa. The defender says the persistent problem is manageable.

"At times like this, when we are down to the bare bones, I am fit to play," Terry said. "When I did my back, friends and family asked whether it was from the original operation, five years ago. It is not. I have jarred my back.

"Rio [Ferdinand] has had back problems, and when you are fit and then miss a game people think your back has gone again. I am going to pick up knocks, like everyone does, but the main thing is I manage it myself and have a good relationship with the manager and the medical team."
