Friendlies: Paraguay sting All Whites, China sunk

New Zealand were unable to repeat their World Cup heroics against Paraguay in Wellington, losing 2-0 to the South Americans in an international friendly.

The All Whites battled to a goalless draw against the eventual quarter-finalists in the group stages in South Africa, but were always chasing the game at Westpac Stadium once the visitors scored two goals in quick succession.

Nelson Haedo slotted home the opener from the penalty spot after 22 minutes before Osvaldo Martinez lobbed goalkeeper Mark Paston for Paraguay's second five minutes later. The hosts' misery was compounded when Winston Reid was sent off in the 89th minute for a crude challenge on Federico Santander.

Bulgaria claimed their second consecutive win under new boss Lothar Matthaus as they cast aside Saudi Arabia 2-0 in Istanbul. Dimitar Rangelov opened the scoring after 39 minutes before Valeri Domovchiyski added the second just before half-time.

The win meant Matthaus maintained a perfect record from his two games in charge after they beat Wales 1-0 in their Euro 2012 qualifier on Friday.

Croatia recovered from a goal down to beat Norway 2-1. Mohammed Abdellaoue opened the scoring after 20 minutes before goals from Mario Mandzukic (35) and Niko Kranjcar (50) claimed the win for Croatia.

Japan held South Korea to a goalless draw at Seoul World Cup Stadium to avoid suffering a hat-trick of defeats at the hands of their regional rivals in the space of eight months.

Keisuke Honda had Japan's best chance after 26 minutes with a fierce half-volley that was tipped over by Jung Sung-ryeong in the Korean goal.

South Korea had the better chances after the break and could have gone ahead just before the hour mark, with only a goal-line clearance from Yuto Nagatomo keeping out a header from Park Chu-young.

China were soundly beaten 4-0 by World Cup semi-finalists Uruguay at the Wuhan Sports Centre.

An own goal by Feng Xiaoting gave the South American side the lead after 70 minutes with Edinson Cavani doubling the advantage nine minutes later. Further strikes in the last 10 minutes from Gabriel Rodriguez and Bruno Fernandez put the result beyond doubt.

Pedro Morales scored the only goal of the game as Chile beat Oman 1-0.

Asian champions Iraq were too strong for Qatar as a Emad Mohamad double helped them to a 2-1 win. Yousef Nasser also scored twice as Kuwait came from behind to beat Vietnam 3-1.

Angola were 2-0 winners at the United Arab Emirates thanks to goals from Maeco Antonio and Orivaldo Dias either side of the break.

Cristian Benitez scored twice as Ecuador and Poland drew 2-2 in Montreal. Benitez gave Ecuador the lead in the 32nd minute but Poland hit back through Euzebiusz Smolarek (60) and Ludovic Obraniak (70) before Benitez secured the draw 12 minutes from time.

There was also a 2-2 draw between Mexico and Venezuela, with Juan Arango twice putting Venezuela ahead only to see his goals cancelled out by Manchester United's Javier Hernandez (34) and Tottenham's Giovani dos Santos (61).

USA and Colombia played out a dull 0-0 draw in Pennsylvania while Panama beat ten-man Peru 1-0. Carlos Zambrano was sent off after just 23 minutes but it still took Panama until the 76th minute to score the winner through Gabriel Torres.
