New Reds owners to stick with Hodgson

Roy Hodgson will not be replaced by the new American owners of Liverpool and will be given every chance to prove he is the right manager for the club.

• Civil war over Liverpool sale
• Broughton: Deal done in a week
• Brewin: Out of the frying pan
• In profile: John W Henry

New England Sport Venture (NESV) has effectively bought Liverpool, subject to overcoming a legal challenge by Tom Hicks and George Gillett, but ESPNsoccernet can exclusively reveal that the subject of Hodgson's future has not figured as part of the discussions and negotiations.

ESPNsoccernet broke the story of the Liverpool takeover on Tuesday evening, and now has an insight into the background of the deal and the new owners' initial thoughts about the club and the team.

NESV, the owners of a number of sporting franchises including the Boston Red Sox, will make money available to the manager in the January transfer window.

Whether it will allow Hodgson to be the man to spend it largely depends on results over the next few weeks. The former Fulham boss will be assessed and judged on the usual criteria for managers - results.

If Hodgson cannot turn around the team's fortunes, with Liverpool languishing in the bottom three of the Premier League and already ousted from the Carling Cup, then naturally he will find his position under threat.

With former Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill yet to commit to another job, and the inevitable American link with Jurgen Klinsmann, then Hodgson will be under intense scrutiny with the new owners.
