Dimitri Payet has been rewarded for his excellent early-season form for St Etienne by being drafted into the France squad for their Euro 2012 qualifiers against Romania and Luxembourg next month.
Payet, born on the Indian Ocean island of Reunion, has been instrumental in Les Verts' stunning start to the Ligue 1 season, scoring seven goals in as many games to take them top of the table.
Marseille forward Andre-Pierre Gignac and Panathinaikos striker Djibril Cisse have not been included while Jeremy Toulalan has been left out by coach Laurent Blanc despite some good performances since returning to the Lyon midfield.
Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra returns for Les Bleus after missing the opening qualifiers against Belarus and Bosnia-Herzegovina earlier this month due to a leg injury, as does Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri. His Gunners team-mate Sebastien Squillaci has not made the cut though, and neither has Anthony Reveillere, who did make the squad for the first two qualifiers.
France welcome back Lyon playmaker Yoann Gourcuff from suspension after his red card against South Africa in the final match of their disappointing World Cup campaign.
Les Bleus take on Romania in Paris on October 9 before facing Luxembourg in Metz on October 12, having taken three points from their opening two qualifiers.
